Do you want to control your emotions at work?

Just when you think you’ve got things under control, do you find you get hijacked by your emotions?
  • You shut down when you meant to stand firm.
  • You feel the urge to cry when you meant to be confident.
  • You open your mouth and lose it when you meant to be rational.
Not being able to handle your emotions becomes an issue when
you have problems or relationship that needs to be dealt with...
but you are worried you’ll get too emotional when you try.

Perhaps you fear that:
  • If you address that issue - You’ll be too angry.
  • If you voice your opinion - Your words will come out shaky, showing how anxious you are.
  • If you attempt to take a tough stand - Doubt will overcome you, and you’ll back down.

To make matters worse, you know you shouldn't be so darn emotional!  Because, Lord knows, if you are too sensitive, you'll be labelled!

Ugh!!! I totally get it!
I’ve been there too.
I’ve struggled to handle my anger, hurt or embarrassment and I knew other’s witnessed it and judged me for it. I can remember times when my emotions seeped out of me, no matter how hard I tried to keep them stuffed in. For example:

  • I watched my boss have the Oh please don’t cry! look, as I fumbled to push back tears when he criticized my work. I know he thought I was weak.
  • I knew my employee was smirking inside when I snapped at her in front of the rest of the team. Yes, she’d pushed my buttons, but I was the one being gossiped about at smoker’s corner because I couldn’t control my anger.
  • I let a sarcastic comment seep out when I was annoyed that someone didn’t pull their weight during an important project. It didn’t matter that they had sloughed off their responsibilities. I was the one judged as being unfair because I’d respond so emotionally.

Despite my efforts to be a strong leader, I was NOT in control of my emotions.

But here’s the thing, when we can’t manage our emotions,
we lose respect, credibility and trust of our team, colleagues and clients.

Effective leaders are both able to recognize & manage their emotions.

It is what is called
Emotional Intelligence.
As I've increased my Emotional Intelligence, things have changed dramatically! I’ve learned how to both recognize and manage my emotions. Now, I can feel the anger coming on, and I can still say what I want to say but respectful. I may still be angry, but I handle my anger differently. When I am criticized, rather than taking everything personally, or literally, I can step back and decide how I want to take the criticism; as valuable feedback, even if it hurt or perhaps disregard it, given the source isn't someone I respect or who would value their judgement. Increased Emotional Intelligence has given me the confidence to handle tough situations, and still be in control of my emotions!

I'm here to teach YOU to do the same. I want you to have this level of confidence to manage YOUR emotions!
